I Love Fridays

I love the way they make me feel, the way they smell, the way they make everything all right.

I hope everyone has an amazing weekend before the Big Week!

Rain, Rain, Go Away

I found this little tid bit on Wikipedia very interesting!

Snow has been recorded falling on San Diego communities only five times in over
125 years of record-keeping[1].
Snow flurries were last seen in San Diego on February 15th, 2008, and the last
measurable snowfall to hit various neighborhoods and suburbs around the city
fell on December 13th, 1967. In winter, light snow is common in mountainous
regions of east San Diego County above 3000-4000 feet; one can sometimes see
snow-covered mountains from San Diego. [2]

I'm in Love

I stumbled across these beauties from Bakers. They would look perfect with my sweater thigh-highs I just bought!

Happy Friday--Holiday Countdown Continues

Frank Sinatra was born on this day in 1915

What an amazing life he led and so gracefully left us with beautiful songs and wonderful memories. I hope you're right Frank, "The best is yet to come"

Today is Friday! I am so relieved that this week is over. Just one more week and then I can start packing for my holiday trip! If you can't tell, I'm ecstatic to be going home and seeing all of my family this year! I know it will fly by so I'm just trying to enjoy all of the minutes leading up to it.

We Got A Tree... Well Kinda

The lights are up and the stockings are hung, but where is The Tree?

This year we will be out of town for Christmas leaving our kitties with full reign of the house so we were debating even getting a tree, real or fake. A friend of mine gave me this small prelit upside down tree. It looks really weird but the story of the tree is when Europeans did it back in the Middle Ages it was to represent the Trinity (The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit) . Now-a-days Christmas trees have a pointy top that is supposed to point up to Christ. I guess if you have a ton of presents, the upside down tree could offer much more space "underneath the tree" but only if you can get over the fact that your tree is upside down.

Prayers

Monday afternoon I was a hair model for Toni over at Artesia Day Spa and Salon. She cut my hair into a Classic TIGI style, very cute! I got my make up done in a very intense smokey eye style. Then we headed over to Say Lula Salon down in East Village to do her recorded interview and demonstration of the haircuts in order to become a TIGI hair instructor. I had such a blast being in the behind the scenes of a hairshow!

On a very serious note:

A military aircraft crashed into a residential neighborhood here on Monday, igniting an intense fire that killed a grandmother, mother, and young child in one house and destroyed at least one other home and two cars. A second child from the same family was missing and presumed dead. The authorities, who did not immediately identify the victims, resumed the search for the missing child today. Please send the family your prayers.

Happy Friday!

Christmas is almost here!
Only Christmas music from now on...I'm normally a very thrifty shopper but I bought two pairs of these thigh-highs at American Apparel on a complete impulse.
This week has just flown by!
Tomorrow, Ted and I are going out to the desert to watch some rockets launch! That should be loads of fun. Then on Sunday, we're going up to Ted's parent's house to put up the Christmas Tree and decorate it!

* 18 days until we leave for Virgina

*21 days until New York

*27 days until 2009

I'm so excited that we aren't going to have an 80 degree San Diego Christmas this year!

It's All Over Now

So, the week long vacation from school and the extended weekend from work has abruptly come to an end! I'm so sad! I did manage to cram in something every night though. Between two Thanksgiving dinners back to back, crazily shopping on Black Friday at the mall of all places, getting a little more shopping done for New York on Saturday, and ending the week off with a Smashing Pumpkins concert on Sunday. I have to say the concert was one of the weirdest best shows I've ever been to! Let's just leave it at that! It was the Billy Corgan Show!

Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner

It's Finally Here!!!
I've been waiting all year for Thanksgiving dinner! I'm so lucky because I get to have it two nights in a row this time around. Our best friends, Wes and Rita, invited us to share TD with them tonight and then tomorrow we're going to Ted's parent's house for round two! Oh I'm so excited! Gluttony for two whole days! I hope everyone has a safe Thanksgiving!

**********************************************************

It's still raining here. That's a wonderful thing because the Santa Ana winds are coming in again and they normally cause those notorious wild fires! I am thankful for the rain! **********************************************************

  • 20 days until I'm on a much needed Christmas Break from school
  • 26 days until I'm in Virginia celebrating Christmas with family
  • 29 days until I'm in New York! (For the first time!)

I'm So Lucky

It's a shame that we only designate ONE day to celebrating and appreciating the people and things that we're thankful for. I feel so fortunate to have such an amazing boyfriend, a wonderful core group of friends and most of all, the best family in the world! I love you and thank you every day of the year! It's starting to get cold and rainy down here in San Diego (finally, I mean it is almost December!) It seems like the "cold bug" hit extra hard this season. As I'm slowly feeling normal again, Ted is quickly feeling sicky! Let's all hope that he feels better for the holidays!
******************************************************
I'm getting so excited about Christmas! We have a jammed packed vacation schedule but it will be worth it! I get to go to New York for the first time and best of all, at Christmas time! Living in San Diego, we don't have many "winter" clothes so it's been a pleasure buying long johns and wool jackets!

Pumpkin Pie with a Twist

I've never been much of a baker but this Thanksgiving I'm going to give it a try.
I found this recipe for a Pumpkin-Ginger Pie with a Golden Marshmallow Topping. Sounds so yummy!

************************************************************
I've also been knitting up a storm between scarfs, little scarfins and the one I'm most proud of, a slouchy beret. They seem to be popping up everywhere!

Today in History
On November 19, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln delivered a short speech at the close of ceremonies dedicating the battlefield cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Requested to offer a few remarks, Lincoln memorialized the Union dead and highlighted the redemptive power of their sacrifice. Placing the common soldier at the center of the struggle for equality, Lincoln reminded his listeners of the higher purpose for which blood was shed.

Happy Friday--Holiday Countdown

How is it that I wait for the Holidays all year long but when they finally come I'm so unprepared and it's almost like they snuck up on me?
I can't believe that there's only:
*12 days left until Thanksgiving
*41 days left until Christmas
Along with every other person in America, I am flat broke this year! This means I'm doing homemade presents for all my friends and family. I've been working on scarfs galore but I just found the cutest idea for making ornaments.

Take a look at these cuties!

Today Is A Very Special Day

November 11, 2008
Veterans Day was once called Armistice Day. It marked the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 when the guns fell silent in Europe, and the doughboys and sailors and Marines who'd gone to fight World War I could come home. It has become an international tradition to observe a two-minute period of silence and reflection at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. This is usually followed by laying of wreaths to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
If you're looking for ways to honor and remember our veterans, click here
And it's also my best friend, Cody Alane's birthday!!! I love you my friendie!

Yes We Can

I rushed home from school just in time to see Barack Obama glide over the 270 mark and I was completely overcome with joy!!! The people on my street were screaming and chanting and it was like all of the anticipation of this election was released in one joint moment.

I was almost brought to tears during Obama's acceptance speech. He has such a poetic and rhythmic way of speaking and I've never felt this passionate and hopeful about any president and my country in my lifetime. There's so much work to be done to right all of the wrongs but I have faith that this is the beginning of something great!
Thank you for voting!

Election Day

Election Day 2008
I drove to the Golden Hill Golf Course Voting Poll early this morning. It was pouring down rain but I got there safely and in good time. There was a pretty long line but some how it only took 20 minutes for me to get through the line and place my vote. Please don't let the long lines and wait prevent you from voting! I heard a great commercial. It said "Vote or Shut Up". Basically, unless you vote, you can't complain about things not going your way because you didn't vote to make the difference!

This weekend I'm planning on going up to San Jacento to do a little hiking and camping. Hopefully the weather will work with those plans!

Susan G. Komen 5K Race for the Cure

Ted, Cody and I walked down to Balboa Park early Sunday morning to join the thousands of people who were all there supporting The Cure for Breast Cancer. People of all ages were there either running or walking in their Breast Cancer "gear". It looked like a flowing sea of pink.

If you've never been, it's truly an amazing sight!

I hope everyone had a great, safe weekend!

Tomorrow is a day that I feel will go down in history. How amazing is it that we're a part of it?

Please Vote!

Any Halloween Plans?

This year Halloween is on a Friday!
Have you carved your pumpkins? Made pumpkin pie? Toasted pumpkin seeds?
Well, if not, here's a website that can simulate carving a pumpkin. Just light up a pumpkin pie scented candle and it's on.

Here are some that you can attempt!

Hello & Welcome to my brand new blog!

I'll tell you a little bit about myself
My name is Shana. I'm 25. I live in San Diego, CA with my beautiful boyfriend, Ted. I'm on the road to becoming a Cosmetologist and can't wait to have my certificate in hand and start on my career! That's about it for now...
